10. How to Set Up Weather Play in DSA Cloud

Tailoring your digital signage to the surrounding environment is a highly effective way to capture audience attention. The updated Digital Signage Solutions (DSA) Cloud interface offers a “Weather Play” feature, allowing you to establish conditional rules so your media only displays during specific weather events.

In this tutorial, we will explore how to apply Weather Play conditions to individual media items within your playlist. You will learn how to trigger content based on current or forecasted conditions, select from a wide range of specific weather states (like rain or clear skies), and utilize temperature thresholds to determine when your media should appear on screen.

Key Features

  • Flexible Trigger Modes: Choose whether your media triggers based on the weather conditions “Now” (current weather), “Today” (forecasted for today), or “Tomorrow” (forecasted for tomorrow).

  • Specific Weather Conditions: Select from an extensive list of weather states, including Thunderstorm, Drizzle, Rain, Snow, Mist, Smoke, Haze, Dust, Fog, Sand, Ash, Squall, Tornado, and Clear.

  • Multiple Triggers: You can choose any number of weather conditions from the list for a single media item. The designated media will display when one or more of your selected conditions is true at the player’s location.

  • Temperature Thresholds: Use the “Greater Than” or “Less Than” options to determine whether media displays only when the local temperature is higher or lower than a specific degree in Celsius.

  • Location Dependent: The Weather Play feature relies on local data, meaning it will only function for players that have their location service enabled.

Step-by-Step Guide: Configuring Weather Play

Step 1: Accessing Media Conditions

  1. Navigate to Playlists: From your DSA Cloud dashboard, select the Playlist tab from the top navigation menu.

  2. Select a Playlist: Click on the playlist you want to manage from the list of Available Playlists.

  3. Edit Media Settings: Select the checkbox next to the specific media item you want to apply weather rules to. Click the Edit Media Settings icon (the cog) located on the right side of the screen.

Step 2: Setting Weather Conditions

  1. Enable Conditional Play: In the settings window, check the box next to Conditional Play.

  2. Select Weather Play: Check the box next to Weather Play to reveal the weather configuration options.

  3. Choose a Trigger Mode: Select the radio button for your desired timeframe: Now, Today, or Tomorrow.

  4. Select Conditions: Scroll through the provided list and check the boxes next to the weather conditions that should trigger this media to play (for example, checking “Rain” for an image of an umbrella).

Step 3: Setting Temperature Conditions

  1. Access Temperature Settings: If you want to trigger media based on temperature instead of or in addition to general weather, scroll down to the Weather Temperature section.

  2. Select a Parameter: Click the dropdown menu and select either Greater Than or Less Than.

  3. Enter a Temperature: Type a specific target temperature (in °C) into the Temperature field. (For example, selecting Greater Than and entering 20 will ensure the media only plays when the local temperature is higher than 20°C).

  4. Save Changes: Click the green Ok button at the bottom of the window to confirm your settings. The conditional play rule will now be noted under the Schedule column for that item in your playlist.
