When managing complex digital signage schedules, you might not want an entire subplaylist to play through completely every single time it triggers in your main loop. The updated Digital Signage Solutions (DSA) Cloud interface introduces “Playlist Rules,” giving you granular control over how your nested subplaylists behave.
In this tutorial, we will show you how to enable these rules to customize the playback order and set specific play counts for your subplaylists.
Advanced Subplaylist Control: Unlock and edit settings for individual subplaylists directly within your main playlist.
Custom Playback Order: Choose whether the media inside your subplaylist plays in a strict “Sequential” sequence or a shuffled “Random” order.
Play Count Limits: Dictate exactly how many items from the subplaylist are allowed to show each time the subplaylist is triggered before the screen moves on to the next item in the main loop.
Firmware Note: Keep in mind that Playlist Rules are only supported by player revisions 3.4.X and newer.
Step 1: Accessing Subplaylist Settings
Navigate to Playlists: From your DSA Cloud dashboard, select the Playlist tab from the top navigation menu.
Select Your Playlist: Choose a playlist from your list that currently contains a subplaylist.
Open Media Settings: Select the checkbox next to the subplaylist item, then click the Edit Media Settings icon (the cog) located near the top right.
Step 2: Applying Playlist Rules
Enable Edits: At the bottom of the Edit Item window, check the box next to Enable Subplaylist Edit.
Activate Rules: Check the Playlist Rules box to reveal the advanced configuration options.
Set the Play Order: By default, the subplaylist will play in a Sequential order. You can select the Random bubble instead if you want the player to shuffle the subplaylist’s media.
Determine the Play Count: In the text box below the order settings, enter a Play Count number. This number determines exactly how many media items will play from the subplaylist each time it runs. (For example, if you have 10 items in the subplaylist but set the Play Count to 3, only 3 items will show before the main playlist resumes).
Save Changes: Click the green Ok button at the bottom of the window to confirm and apply your new rules.
